Carbohydrates and Glucose

The human body operates on glucose and allows all carbohydrates to be converted or transformed into theHealthy Living digestive tract. When this happens, the glucose is then entered into the bloodstream and causes an increase in the blood glucose and levels. Within certain parameters the blood glucose levels must remain stable or decline gradually.

When the blood glucose levels are high, your blood becomes toxic and very dangerous. If the blood glucose levels are too low it is vital and detrimental to the body. The body functions and runs on a system to regulate and keep a certain amount of glucose flowing through the bloodstream. This process ensures that there is a proper balance free from danger.

There are two mechanisms within the glucose balancing systems known as hunger and insulin. When blood glucose levels drop, the brain immediately makes you feel hungry. So then we eat foods that will convert into glucose and allow our blood sugar levels to rise. If you feel hungry and do not take action right away by eating, our blood glucose levels fall too quickly and trigger a serious condition referred to as hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycemia can cause abnormal levels of sugar in the blood and rapidly decline. This condition will cause a person to become extremely weak, dizzy, disoriented and if it is not treated right away you can increase your chances of getting permanent brain damage.

The opposite of low levels would of course be high levels of blood glucose. When your blood sugar rises rapidly, the brain automatically advises your pancreas to release insulin and then the pancreas disperses the glucose appropriately, allowing all levels to fall. If insulin is not provided right away to regulate blood glucose levels, the sugar that has entered into the bloodstream can become highly toxic, causing a condition referred to as hyperglycemia.

Hyperglycemia causes the body to have high levels of glucose in the bloodstream. People who have the condition hyperglycemia may experience symptoms of diabetes mellitus and may also cause organ damage and life-threatening ketoacidosis.
